Disordered Expression is Precious

Expression is a vital aspect of life. Some forms of expression have specific goals and audiences—such as speeches or presentations—which often require clarity, precision, and a prominent theme to achieve a certain effect. Other expressions, however, are not as clear and lack a specific purpose, appearing disordered, vague, or even incoherent. Examples include journaling, casual conversation, and counseling. Yet, these are deeply important.

This is because expression is not only about conveying our thoughts and feelings to others; it is also a means for us to understand, organize, and experience ourselves. It is through expression that we truly see ourselves. Those unformed expressions are just as much an essential part of who we are—perhaps even the most significant part. Because they are unformed and unknown, they are all the more worthy of exploration, allowing us to truly feel the joy of discovery.
